                          Class Descriptions

Beginning Quilting – Introduces you to the basics of quilting.  This is for the true beginner or the quilter wishing for a refresher class.  Students start at “square one” learning how to use a rotary cutter, ruler and tools of the quilting world.  Techniques for piecing different blocks and attaching borders will be taught while students make a project that may be used as a wall hanging or table runner.  Quilting and binding will be taught.  Basic sewing skills are required for this course.  Students provide fabric and basic quilting/sewing supplies. Supply list is given at the first class.

Felted Wool -See how easy it is to turn your favorite old wool sweater into your new mittens, scarf, purse, baby booties, wall hangings, slippers, table runners, pin cushion plus many more.   Learn how to felt the wool sweaters prior to the transformations.   Come and see many different items made from felted wool.   This may become addictive! Kits will be available for purchase.  In the first class you will learn “How To” prepare your wool sweater for the many project ideas.

Sewing Individual Projects - is designed for Sewists of all levels.  Short demonstrations, lectures (given at the beginning of the class) and assistance is given to the student in all aspects of sewing. Students select their own projects. Students are responsible for bringing their own sewing supplies and notions.

Beginning Sewing – Introduces the basics of sewing.  Topics covered include operation of a sewing machine, familiarity with essential equipment, choosing and preparing a pattern (although done for you in this class), information on fabric and interfacing selection and construction of a Tote Bag.  This is a great refresher course.  Through lectures, demonstrations of techniques and individual help you will construct the project.

Sewing Intermediate is a continuation of the Beginning Sewing course and includes lectures and demonstrations (given at the beginning of the class) with the balance of the class for sewing. Topics include: Taking Proper Measurements, Understanding Fitting Ease, Pattern Alterations, Pattern Symbols and Layout, Pinning Know How – Cutting Knowledge, Threads and Needles, Stay Stitching and Seams.   Students will construct a project of their own choice.  Use of equipment and technique inquiries on individual sewing projects is given.

(This is a great prep class for the Louise Cutting Blouse pattern class coming in Nov/Dec.)

Sewing Open Lab (OL) - This is a course designed for the student wanting a workspace with sewing equipment.  This is a good course for someone who has completed Beginning Sewing and looking for individual help when needed. Open to all types of sewing and quilting projects.  Students are responsible for bringing their own sewing materials and supplies.  The sewing lab is well equipped with sewing machines, sergers, cutting tables and pressing equipment .
